WHAT IS THE MIST?

No one is sure. Even if you could get one of the non-hostiles to talk about it, they won't exactly give you much information. Some of them may have been around for the event but none of them seem to have any memory of it, let alone what caused it. Is it connected to the infected? Was it caused by humans, or something else? There are no answers. Just more questions.

So what happens during this event?

It happens at random and causes the entire area to become shrouded in thick fog, even within buildings and closed in areas that should, logically, keep fog from coming inside. There is an eerie droning sound that comes along with it, the only warning you get that something is clearly not right.

Runners, the most common type of infected get riled up during this time and will wander outside the "safety" of their usual haunts, taking to roads and hunting around bases for victims to target. Semi-common infected will also make appearances during this time. Sleeping will difficult regardless of the time it happens, and you'll find yourself losing energy, stamina, and even the strength of powered abilities.

The event will quietly dissipate in about an hour or two, along with the negative effects of it, including infected simply crumbling and vanishing as if they were never there.
